Day +30

Hello Everyone,

We hoped for the best and prepared for the worst. Unfortunately, it was worse than we prepared for.

Just a couple of days after my last post, Lynda’s condition took a turn for the worse. The side effects of the transplant chemo — especially the painful mucositis and esophagitis — intensified significantly. Eating and drinking became nearly impossible, and she had to rely entirely on IV support for hydration, nutrition, and pain control. Her strength faded quickly, and even the smallest movements became exhausting.

The medical team shifted their focus to pain management and infection prevention — a critical priority with her immune system still being intentionally suppressed to allow the donor marrow to establish itself. They adjusted medications, increased support, and worked constantly to keep her stable and as comfortable as possible.

After more than a week of extreme discomfort and uncertainty, small signs of progress began to show. Her pain slowly eased. She managed a sip or two of broth. And lab results confirmed that her white blood cell counts had begun to climb — a clear sign that engraftment was underway.

We are almost a third of the way through our 100 days — a reminder that while recovery is slow and fragile, we are making our way forward. She is still trying to get past the effects of that last round of chemo: eating and drinking remain huge challenges, she continues to take 30+ pills every day, and the nausea and vomiting continue unabated. Progress from here will be slow and difficult, and it will be measured in weeks, not days. Infection is still a serious risk, and her body has a long way to go, but the early signs of healing bring us hope.

We are grateful beyond words for the love and support surrounding us. Please continue to keep Lynda close in your thoughts and prayers as we take the next steps — slowly, and with as much strength as we can muster.
